Many think that organic church is merely a middle-class white phenomenon. We asked leading practitioners from the West Coast, MidWest and East Coast to share what they are learning in their contexts about organic church in the black community.

Robert L. Caldwell, Jr. has over twenty-five years of social service experience. He is the founder or co-founder of several different social and human service initiatives including; The Faith Based Partnership Initiative, an innovative community development effort seeking faith-based solutions to the problems faced by the urban poor, and Break Dividing Walls, a series of workshops and learning experiences that address the issue of ethnic, racial, and economic bias in America. Robert, his wife Michelle and their children Caleb, Gabriel, Gabriella, and Charis are currently living and working in the Weinland Park Neighborhood (Columbus, OH), a low-income neighborhood south of the Ohio State University Campus area, where they are pioneering a multi-racial multi-ethnic community of faith called Mosaic.



Cue (aka Stephen Jn-Marie) serves as the Cause Pastor (outreach) of NewSong-LA. He is also the Founder and President of the Shaw Transformation Corporation in the Crenshaw community of Los Angeles, California-started by NewSong in 2003. Some ministries include high school bible club, Asylumz - a skid row street church/hip hop church to name a few. Cue a former Virgin Records Artist as part of rap group CollegeBoyz, who heard a call from God in 1994 while watching the movie Malcolm X. Soon after, Cue left the music industry and began following God.

Don Graves serves in the marketplace as an entrepreneur. He owns a Reverse Mortgage Company and Real Estate Development Company. He is currently Co-Director of the Greater Philadelphia Simple Church Network. -a ministry that partners with the whole body of Christ to facilitate the starting of creative churches to reach the unchurched and dechurched. As well as networking and coaching groups which desire to move toward more organic expressions of church ife. Don has served as a Campus Pastor, Community Pastor, President of Habitat for Humanity, and Senior Pastor of two churches. He and his wife Shelle have served as missionaries in Russia and Kenya, East Africa. Don received his undergraduate training at Temple University, graduate studies at Philadelphia College of Bible and is completing a MBA in Economic Development at Eastern College in St. David's, PA. Don & Shelle have been married for 20 years and have 3 children.
